relax on a summer night filled with food, friends and fun and help us to
raise money to give more kids than ever before the opportunity to learn
and explore all Colorado has to offer!

Confidence, courage, academic achievement, mountain safety, and
responsible recreation—that’s what CMC’s Youth Education Program is all
about. In 2012, the CMC’s Youth Education Program (YEP) provided
opportunities for 7,418 to experience the natural world through active
learning adventures – essential opportunities to help combat childhood
obesity and prevent “nature deficit disorder.” Imagine learning about
Colorado’s geology while rock climbing, taking a math class to measure
slope angles and avalanche danger, or learning about human physiology
and the effects of altitude during a snowshoe hike. CMC’s unique program
connects math and science with the school curriculum for elementary,
middle, and high school students. Students with special needs or from
disadvantaged backgrounds also benefitted from the personal challenge
and inter-relationship skills they developed on mountain adventures. In
2012, the CMC awarded a total of $22,641 in need-based scholarships to
Through YEP, we “bring the mountains” to students with activities and
field trips that teach mountain weather, avalanche science, physics of
rock climbing, altitude physiology, conservation, and a variety of other
academic topics, in addition to youth development. Our innovative
program has helped provide leadership development and academic
opportunities for more than 70,000 youth from Colorado since its
inception in 1999. Many of these students would otherwise not have had
access to mountain topics or outdoor recreation experiences.
