The Best Easy Hikes in Switzerland

The majestic beauty of the Swiss landscape is well known to all. The Swiss people are wonderful, and the good food and great hotels are part of the country’s tradition! A precise, extensive and safe network of transportation has made its mountains a paradise for hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, snow walking (and climbing too!). This trip has been designed for those wishing to hike daily, difficult A / easy B CMC definition of hikes. We will hike as a group and my pace is slow. The majority of the hikes are magnificent ridge hikes, with extensive views. Trains, trams, gondolas will achieve the absolute majority of the altitude gain. We will stay in 4 star hotels (5 courses dinners) and will visit two areas in the country: Graubùnden (St. Moritz area) and the Jungfrau region (The Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau). We will divide our time between the towns of Pontresina (Graubünden) and Wengen (Jungfrau region). The infinite beauty of those areas, the interesting architecture and all the diverse activities one can find available will certainly please those that hike (and those that do not…)

Date: July 5 - 15, 2017 (11 days)  Price: From $3,995

Crested Butte Wildflower Hike

Crested Butte’s title of Wildflower Capital of Colorado, designated by the state legislature in 1990, is undisputed. Imagine yourself hiking in the explosion of color—reds, yellows, blues, purples—that blankets the town and surrounding mountains in July. This 6-day (5-night) trip is scheduled during the peak of blossoms. We will see striking crimson and orange paintbrush, periwinkle columbines, scarlet glia, iridescent blue flax, yellow sunflowers, purple delphiniums and dusky blue lupines to name a few among an extensive palette of sub-alpine and alpine flowers. All hikes are rated A - B, at a causal pace. Our hikes will take us into three wilderness areas: West Elk Wilderness, Raggeds Wilderness and Maroon-Bells Snowmass Wilderness.  We will have a tour of the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory and old mining town of Gothic.  A guided historic tour of Crested Butte is also planned. We will dine each evening in local establishments and once at the B&B, with a catered dinner the first night.

Canoe & Hike the Canyons of the Colorado River - Hosted by Centennial Canoe Outfitters

Canoe and hike along the Colorado River as it cuts throughtowering red sandstone canyons deposited during the age of the dinosaurs. Roads do not bound this portion of the river, and the canyons are accessible only from the river, giving the area a true wilderness setting. There may be time along the way for hiking into the canyons, swimming in the cool river, or simply relaxing on its banks. Interesting side trips into deep box canyons will leave you awed by the immensity of geologic time and the silence of the wilderness. Portugal: Sintra Coastal & Heritage Trails

CMC has offered Adventure Travel trips for over 40 years, but NEVER to Portugal. It’s time to visit this land of fabulous cultural and historical sites, wonderful hiking, ocean views, and spend time in Lisbon, one of Europe’s great capitol cities largely undiscovered by Americans.  Come to the land of expansive views, warm temperatures, friendly people, the unique music of Fado, and a European capitol with hills even better than San Francisco, with an uphill tram instead of cable cars. Great dining opportunities for the trail overnights as well as Lisbon. Seafood anyone?  Madeira wine anyone (from the Portuguese island of the same name)? Also, Conde Nast Traveler has recognized Cascais as a Top Ten place to retire.

Alta Via 1, 3 and 4 in the Italian Dolomites

The Dolomites are in the northeast corner of Italy, close to the Austrian border. From the American point of view, the Dolomites are perhaps Europe's most underappreciated mountain range. Despite their proximity to tourist-thronged Venice, not many Americans visit. Too bad. These ramparts of white and pink limestone thrusting up to 10,000 feet from rolling green meadows are more dramatic and esthetic (albeit smaller) than the familiar movie-logo snow-capped peaks of the Alps just to the north. Three-thousand-foot walls attract hard-core rock climbers, while energetic hikers tread a vast network of superb foot trails serviced by a system of rifugios—overnight huts that are really more like small basic hotels, with food, wine, heat, electric lights, bunks, many with hot showers and sometimes even private rooms. The rifugios allow a hiker carrying only a modest pack to stay out on the trail for days or even weeks at a time—an outdoor luxury virtually impossible on this side of the Atlantic.
