We will base camp near Moab in this fun and exciting adventure and explore the famous mountain biking and hiking trails in the Moab area, and Arches & Canyonlands National Parks. You will ride (or hike) with groups of various sizes and abilities for four days of adventure in this amazing desert wonderland. A favorite for biking or hiking is the seldom traveled Hidden Canyon trail with its prolific Anasazi art & hunting ruins. Savory food is provided and prepared by experienced desert gourmet chefs along with camping reservations, all your water needs, and porto-potties, etc. You will also receive a t-shirt custom designed for this year’s adventure. A large campfire with live music, drum circles, sweat lodge, desert croquet and other games & group activities round out the afternoon and evening fun. You provide your own transportation (carpooling encouraged) to and from the rides and hikes which are accessible with any vehicle. You also need to bring your own camping gear and bike & helmet (if you ride) or rent one in Moab. There are rides and hikes suited for beginning to advanced and for all ages. Not included: Transportation to Moab, tips for cooks if you choose, helmets and bike rental if needed.
Activities / Difficulty
All Levels of hikers are welcome. Mountain bikers should be comfortable on 4x4 roads as there are few smooth gravel roads. Novice bikers are welcome though they may choose to hike most days.
Trip Leader: Rick & Deana Pratt
In addition to Yellowstone in Winter for 3 year that Rick & Deana both led. Rick has led trips outside the CMC for 30 years including 27 years of mountain biking, hiking and 10 years of canyoneering trips in S.E. Utah. The only “official” CMC AT trip is the Moab trip called the MMBHA. I am approved to lead Class C, hikes, snow shoe & top rope trips. Deana usually accompanies Rick on these excursions and has recently taken the Avalanche Awareness class. Besides three times to Yellowstone Rick has been on dozens of peak climbs with CMC leaders while Deana has been on a few. We primarily lead our own trips.
Our trips to Moab for the past 27 years have been groups of 40 – 60 so we are very comfortable with large groups in wilderness settings. As a ski patroller Rick is also very comfortable in winter conditions.
