News Release

Help us kick off the 2014 field season with a volunteer project at Apex Park to repair trails and flood damage.  A full day of food, music, fun and hard work will help Jefferson County re-open this great recreational asset in our backyard.  Register Online.

The fourth-annual Spring Into Service event needs your help more than ever as the Colorado Mountain Club partners with Jeffco Open Space to repair a local park badly damaged by the September 2013 floods.

The first trail stewardship project of the season, Spring Into Service 2014 will focus on reconstructing washed-out trails, cleaning up waterways and restoring native habitats at popular Apex Park near downtown Golden. The park was closed for more than five months following the major flood event and partially reopened in March. Jeffco Open Space, which manages the park, aims to open the entirety of Apex by the end of 2014. The Spring Into Service event will play a major part in accomplishing that goal.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17. In addition to the service efforts, there will be family friendly environmental education activities throughout the day. Spring Into Service will feature projects and fun for all ages and experience levels. Once the work is finished, relax and celebrate with food, live music and gear giveaways. More than 100 volunteers took part in 2013.

Participants are asked to bring a daypack with water, snacks and extra layers for the unpredictable spring weather in Colorado. The event will go on rain or shine. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, lunch and snacks.

The event is free and open to the public but please  register online spaces are filling quickly!
