TRIP OVERVIEW: Hike with llamas in the Escalante River basin near Boulder, Utah. We will have a base camp using llamas to carry all of the cooking and camping gear. The guides will prepare all of our meals.
TYPE OF ACTIVITY/LEVEL OF ACTIVITY: Hiking, camping
ACCOMMODATIONS: Tent camping with your own equipment, however for a fee you may rent a tent, sleeping bag, and pad from the outfitter. Llamas will carry camp gear, so hiking will be with your day pack.
SKILLS & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: You should be in good shape and able to hike 8 miles per day with a day pack. You must be comfortable hiking in narrow slot canyons and walking through water (pools of water and/or small streams).
PRE-TRIP ACTIVITIES: Not applicable
INCLUDED IN TRIP FEE: All meals from lunch on May 5 through lunch on May 9, llamas carrying all the gear, the guides, cooks, camp chairs and tables, tips for the guides, and a portion of the leader’s trip.
NOT INCLUDED IN TRIP FEE: Not covered by the trip cost is traveL to and from Boulder, Utah, and the hotel for the nights before and after the trip. There is a charge for use of the outfitter’s tent, sleeping bag, pad. It is best to bring your own equipment. Non-CMC members pay an additional 3% administrative fee.
Maximum participation is 7 persons, plus the CMC leader and guide.
