After-School Programs

Fairmount Elementary Early Release Day Series

Spend your Early Release Day with the Colorado Mountain Club’s Youth Education Program (YEP)!

1:00 – 5:00pm for 3rd-6th graders. YEP staff will pick up students from Fairmount Elementary at 1:05pm and parents can arrange to pick their children up at the American Mountaineering Center at 5:00pm. All necessary gear will be provided.

 

*This program is a series of Early Release Days with Fairmount Elementary students in 3rd-6th grade. Future programs may include activities that focus on wilderness skills, nature awareness and observation, survival skills, and fun in the snow!

 

 

2013-14 Program Dates: October 23, December 4, February 26, April 23   -- Click a date to register!

 

Cost: $35/session and includes snack, necessary gear, and instruction.

Minimum 10 students, Maximum 13 students

Fairmount Elementary After School Climbing Club

This program is centered around rock climbing, slacklining, and belaying at the American Mountaineering Center. It has been specifically designed for 3rd-6th grade students from Fairmount Elementary. Instruction focuses on games and climbing-related skills, such as belaying, rappelling, knot-tying, ascending a fixed line, and slacklining. Develop basic climbing knowledge, learn new techniques, and get to know other students interested in climbing! We will also aim to introduce a local outdoor climbing area towards the end of our session!

Bell Middle After School Climbing Club

Join the Colorado Mountain Club’s Youth Education Program (YEP) for a 7-week session of rock climbing, skill building, and fun at the American Mountaineering Center and NEW outdoor climbing sites. Develop basic climbing knowledge, explore local outdoor crags, learn new techniques, and get to know other students interested in climbing!

 

Spring 2014 Program Dates:  April 1, April 8, April 15, April 22, April 29, May 6, and May 13.

 

Cost:  $145/student and includes, snack, all necessary gear, and instruction.  Minimum 10 students, Maximum 13.

Bell Middle Outdoor Leadership Club

This program highlights a variety of outdoor recreation activities and skills, while emphasizing leadership development and having fun!  Participants explore the American Mountaineering Center and nearby parks.

Activities can include hiking, orienteering/navigation, snowshoeing, avalanche science, survival skills, basic wilderness first aid tips, stewardship projects, and more. Develop basic knowledge, learn new skills, and get to know other students interested in outdoor leadership!

Manning After School Climbing Club

Join the Colorado Mountain Club’s Youth Education Program (YEP) for a 7-week session of rock climbing, skill building, and fun at the American Mountaineering Center and NEW outdoor climbing sites. Manning Outdoor Leadership Club

This program highlights a variety of outdoor recreation activities and focuses on leadership skill development and having fun, while exploring the American Mountaineering Center and nearby parks.  Focus areas have included hiking, orienteering/navigation, rock climbing, environmental stewardship, survival skills, basic wilderness first aid tips, avalanche science, and snowshoeing.  Develop new skills and meet other students interested in outdoor leadership!

Shelton Elementary Mountain Club - NEW

Join the NEW Shelton Mountain Club, sponsored by YEP! We will run a 6-week introductory session of rock climbing, hiking, orienteering, and much more at the American Mountaineering Center and nearby parks. Develop basic skills and get to know other students interested in outdoor adventure!

Spring 2014 Program Dates:  April 14, April 21, April 28, May 5, May 12, and May 19.

 

Cost:  $130/ student and includes, snack, all necessary gear, and instruction. Minimum 10 students, Maximum 13.

Custom Programs for Your School or Group

YEP after school programs focus primarily on fostering well-being through self-awareness, physical activity, and team-building. We provide a safe and healthy environment for kids to participate in active adventure based programming. YEP staff will work with your school or organization to custom design the exact program that you are looking for. In addition to the school programs listed above, some of the other groups YEP works with include Scout Troops, and urban organizations such as CityWILD and First Ascenders.
