Schools & Groups
The Colorado Mountain Club's Youth Education Program (YEP) has been inspiring confidence and academic achievement through outdoor education since 1999.
YEP provides multidisciplinary education linking Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) with Colorado’s greatest natural resource: the mountains. Using an experiential approach YEP courses and camps are designed to present real-life examples of science, math, geography, history, and art in nature. The provision of a positive group learning environment, where youth interact with adult mentors and each other, enables the development of valuable life skills such as communication, confidence, and leadership, in addition to academic content.
Our programs take place at your school, at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, or at a variety of Front Range field sites. Programs can last anywhere from one hour to one week!
Whom We Work With
K-12 schools, youth groups and organizations: In a word, everyone!
YEP staff is experienced in tailoring educational programs to meet the needs of all age groups and backgrounds. Our program is committed to making the mountains accessible to all students throughout the Denver Metro area. Since our start in 1999, we have introduced more than 70,000 youth of all backgrounds to Colorado’s mountain classroom.
If your group is in need of financial assistance, custom programming, or adaptations of any kind just let us know and we will be happy to work with you.
" The program allows them to see that learning and challenges are presented to us outside of texts, passages and mathematical equations. This program has instilled leadership in some of my students and I couldn't be more grateful for it.”
- Kerry Andrews, 4th grade, Program Partner Schmitt Elementary
