The Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of a CMC member who died in a climbing fall on June 28th. We also want to express our support and concern for the members of our Pikes Peak group, who lost a respected colleague of their close knit chapter.
The incident occurred on Crestone Needle in the Sangre de Cristo range, an area well known to generations of CMC climbers. As is CMC policy and traditional mountaineering best practice, the State CMC Safety and Leadership Committee will gather and review the details of the event, so that we all may learn from this unfortunate occurrence.
I will serve as the contact should any press communication be necessary in this matter.
Sincerely,
Art Hogling
CMC Vice-President
