blancafest posterThe Colorado Mountain Club will host its annual Blanca Fest in Alamosa, Colo., Aug. 21, 2010 in Cole Park. Blanca Fest is an all-day communal get together for hikers, families, and nature enthusiasts to hike the best trails, peaks and cultural sites San Luis Valley and Sangre de Cristo range have to offer. After a day of hiking, attendees can kick back and relax with an evening of entertainment including, live music, food from San Luis Valley Brewing Co. and lots more.

“Blanca Fest is a time to enjoy a day full of free outdoor activities in the beautiful scenery of San Luis Valley and help Colorado Mountain Club raise awareness and funds for the restoration of Como Lake,” said Bryan Martin, director of conservation programs.

The free guided tours are geared towards hikers of all ages and abilities, so invite your family and friends to spend a day in the mountains with a 360 degree view of beautiful scenery. The tours, led by CMC’s partner organizations in the San Luis Valley, include the Historic Sacred Circle tour led by Colorado Historic Society, Zapata Lake and Falls tours, Sand Dunes/Bison Tour, and fly fishing on the Rio Grande.

After enjoying a day of the great outdoors what better way to unwind than with food and beverages provided by the San Luis Valley Brewing Company. There will also be educational booths and live music for entertainment between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

As well as providing a day of fun and exploration for Coloradans, CMC hopes that the event will encourage, raise awareness and contribute to the conservation of Colorado’s breathtaking mountain landscape. Blanca Fest proceeds will benefit the restoration of trails and the natural environment of Como Lake and Blanca Peak.
