Technical Ice Climbing School

The Technical Ice Climbing School (TICS) is designed for members who wish to extend their rock climbing skills to high angle ice found in mountain couloirs, frozen waterfalls, glaciers, and on expedition climbs.

The school focuses on proper technique, balance, protection, crevasse rescue, winter survival training, construction of snow shelters and evacuation procedures for injured climbers.

The graduation objective of the school is to safely lead several pitches on a vertical ice wall. Acquired skills from the Technical Ice Climbing School improve the safety of CMC semi-technical and technical mountaineering trips as well as on mountain expeditions. Prerequisite for being admitted to the school is graduation from IRCS , or equivalent. Students are expected to use their own equipment.
