ACADEMIC FELLOWSHIPS FOR 2010

Since 1982 The Colorado Mountain Club Foundation has awarded fellowships for research which parallel the Statement of Purpose by the founders of The Colorado
Mountain Club, written in 1912:

“To unite the energy, interest and knowledge of the students, explorers, and lovers of the mountains of Colorado; to collect and disseminate information regarding the Rocky
Mountains in behalf of science, literature, art and recreation; to stimulate public interest in the mountain area; to encourage the preservation of forests, flowers, fauna and natural
scenery; and to render readily accessible the alpine attractions of this region.”

To further this purpose, the Foundation annually solicits applications from students enrolled in Colorado colleges, primarily in graduate research studies, and awards grants ranging from $600 to $2000,
mostly in the disciplines of biology, chemistry, forestry, geography, geology, history and law.  Worthy undergraduates may be considered. About six students will be selected for grants.   The outstanding two students will be awarded the Neal B. Kindig and the Kurt Gerstle Fellowships.  The late Dr. Kindig, a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and Stanford University, was an outstanding Professor of Electrical Engineering at C.U. Boulder.   He extended research through chemistry into medical applications.  He was an active member of CMC and CMCF.  Dr.Gerstle is Emeritus Professor of Engineering at C.U., a long-time member of CMC, and was a founder of the CMCF Academic Fellowships program.

Applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2010, and sent to The Colorado Mountain Club Foundation, c/o Tom Cope, 2800 South University Blvd., #108, Denver, CO 80210, or by FAX
to 303-279-9690.  Letters from faculty sponsors, under separate cover, must support the student and the research topic. Get the application here.
