Created in 1987 to support the many CMC members who live out of state, the Friends of Colorado (FOC) Group normally does not offer hikes and activities of its own, but its members often visit Colorado and are welcome to participate in other Groups' trips, state outings, conservation field work, and other activities.
Friends of Colorado members sign up for CMC trips and activities just like members from any other Group: by calling the CMC Office or the leader of the trip or activity. FOC members with questions about ongoing CMC activities are encouraged to call the CMC Office at the toll-free number: 1-800-633-4417.
FOC members visiting Colorado are reminded that it can take a few days to acclimatize to Colorado 's high altitudes, and that persons living at sea level can experience altitude sickness when visiting Colorado 's mountains, especially if visitors try to climb a high peak immediately after arriving in the state. FOC members should be aware of the possibility of acute mountain sickness and of their possible reactions to altitude changes before signing up for a Club trip.
Please also note that the sun at high altitudes can be much stronger than at sea level, requiring additional sunscreen and other sun protection.
