Lake Photographers, your help is needed
In May of 2008, CMC Press will publish Colorado Lake Hikes, Second Edition. We need beautiful images of the lakes listed below from any season of the year. For the first time in the history of CMC we are paying big bucks ($10.00 each, American money) if your photo(s) is selected for publication, plus your name in the book beside your picture(s) and a free copy of the book.
Please send us prints, slides, or a disc with digital images. Each submission should come with a transmittal form that lists the days' date, the photographer's name, address, phone and email address with a list of photos submitted that includes our control number, the name of the lake and how we can identify those prints, slides or digital images. In other words, a printed control number and the lake name on the back of the print or edge of the slide or subject line of a digital photo—multiple images of the same lake would be listed by a control number followed by an A or B or C, etc. Please send the photos by Priority Mail (with confirmation) to Alan Stark, CMC Press, 710 10th Street, #200, Golden, CO 80401. DEADLINE: The sooner the better but August 1, 2007. After that we will put a crew together to go shoot the lakes that we are missing. Let us know if you would like to volunteer for that crew. MOUNTAIN PHOTOGRAPHERS, YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
Would you like to volunteer some of your photos for publication by the CMC Press? Jack Reed and Gene Ellis are working on a book describing the rocks of the Colorado Mountains and how they affect climbing and mountain travel in the various ranges and peaks. What we need are a number of photographs showing hikers or climbers on different kinds of rock. The photos don’t have to be of technical rock climbing, but can also be of non-roped scrambling, or even moving across talus, but they should give a feeling for the character of the rock.
Some of the rocks we’d like to include are:
- granite (Longs Peak, Eolus, Mt. Princeton),
- gneiss and schist (Grays, Torreys, Elbert, Massive)
- sandstone (Maroons, Flatirons, Eldorado Canyon)
- conglomerate (Crestones)
- volcanic breccia and tuff (San Juans, West Elks)
- hornfels (the Wilsons, El Diente)
- limestone (Shelf Road, Glenwood Canyon)
- quartzite (Needle Mountains).
If you tell us where your photo is taken, we can probably identify the rock. We’d particularly like to have good digital photos, but can work with slides or glossy prints (either of which will be returned). Digital photos can be sent to jreed@usgs.gov. Hard copy photos can be sent of Jack Reed, U.S. Geological Survey, Mail Stop 980, Federal Center, Lakewood, CO 80225. If you have questions feel to, e-mail Jack at the USGS address, or give a call at him at 303-236-1276.
