The Rampart East Roadless Area is located in the Pike National Forest only 40 miles south of Denver and 20 miles northwest of Colorado Springs (grey area on the map).  This 30,000 acre roadless area provides an oasis of solitude and quiet-use recreation in the heart of the Front Range. Unique rock formations, mountain and prairie views, and a variety of flowers and wildlife all beckon the willing explorer to the Rampart East Roadless Area.

The predominantly low elevation forest provides high quality wildlife habitat. Several rare or imperiled species are found in Rampart East.  These include birds (peregrine falcons and the Mexican Spotted Owl), insects, mammals, and several species of plants.  Numerous at-risk ecological zones are also found within the roadless area.

The Pikes Peak Ranger District is currently developing a South Rampart Range Travel Management Plan.  The southern portion of the Rampart East Roadless area is included in this planning area.  To learn more about this effort click here.

The Colorado Mountain Club is working to protect this unique area from future development and off-road motorized use.  Come explore and help us to ensure that this area continues to provide solitude, quiet recreation and wildlife habitat for now and future generations.
