The Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum - The Capital Campaign
Mission: To inspire and
advance among the people of North America the knowledge, preservation, and
enjoyment of the world's mountains and mountaineering.
Some years ago, The Colorado Mountain Club joined with The
American Alpine Club and Outward Bound Wilderness to pursue the vision of the
American Mountaineering Center. This was to be a place where young and old,
world-class adventures or armchair travelers could savor their experiences in
the mountains - whether in Colorado's foothills or faraway places.
Together, we made this vision happen. We preserved an
historic National Register building and created a "base camp" where visitors
can learn more about mountaineering, mountain environments, and the wildlife
that inhabits them. The American Mountaineering Center now hosts the second
largest mountaineering Library in the world, a 3,000 square foot Conference
Center, a 350 seat Auditorium, a 30 foot climbing wall and multiple classrooms
serving thousands of students annually.
There is one very special piece to complete - the Bradford
Washburn American Mountaineering Museum. Named for one of America's foremost
mountaineers, this museum will be the first of its kind in North America and
the ultimate mountaineering experience indoors. Visitors will learn about
mountaineering history, the world's mountains, outdoor safety, environmental
conservation, and of course, Colorado's own unique landscape and mountaineering
heritage.
Our generous partner, The Colorado Mountain Club Foundation
is helping the CMC raise funds to build the museum. We believe that every once
in a while, each of us gets the chance to be part of something significant,
inspiring, and long lasting. Won't you join the CMC and the CMC Foundation by
becoming a Founding Donor?
