ELIGIBILITY

CMC members are encouraged to participate. Photos taken by participants in CMC public programs (such as our Youth Education Program) are also eligible.

CATEGORIES FOR 2008

You may enter photos in any or all of the four categories:

Teamwork

The theme for CMC’s 2008 Mountain Fest is Teamwork. This category is open to some creativity, but all photographs must be CMC mission-related.

CMC Education

Mountain skills education is a core component of our mission. Share your photos from CMC schools and seminars.

CMC’s Adventure Travel

Photographs taken on any CMC Adventure Travel trip (in the U.S. or abroad). These shots can be landscape, people in action, or photos of local culture.

Nature/Wilderness

This category is for wildlife, flora, and wilderness landscape scenes. Please no domesticated animals or pets.

DISPLAY

All accepted entries will be displayed at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden starting Friday, October 17, 2008, and ending Thursday, October 30, 2008. Judging will be conducted prior to the opening of the show.

PRIZES

Ribbons: Ribbons will be awarded for “Best of Show” and first, second, and third places in each category. The judges reserve the right to decide whether a category contains work that merits an award – all prizes may not be awarded in all categories. Decisions of the judges are final.

ACCEPTABLE FORMATS

Only prints may be submitted as entries. Either color or black-and-white prints are acceptable.

Print Size: minimum of 8 x 10 and maximum of 12 x 16. Prints must be mounted with a mat border with an outside dimension not to exceed 16 x 20. Colored mats are acceptable.

Mounting: All entries must be mounted with a foam-core backing (no cardboard) suitable for hanging. The CMC will provide stick-on hangers.

HOW TO SUBMIT

You may submit up to five entries, with a maximum of three in any one category. Payment is required at the time of submission.

Entry Fee: $5 per photo

A completed entry form must be included and attached to the back of each entry.

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP

Photos may be dropped off at the CMC office from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14. Photos may be mailed to the office but must arrive by 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 14. Mailing address: CMC PHOTO CONTEST, The Colorado Mountain Club, 710 10th Street, #200, Golden, CO 80401.

Photos may be picked up at the CMC office from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, October 31, or from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 3. If you would like your photos returned via U.S. Mail, please submit a self-addressed envelope with adequate postage.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need help with all aspects of the show, including drop-off and pick-up days, setting up, tearing down, and more. Even though we know you’ll want to help just to feel good about it, we’ll give you free entry fee for your photo submissions for volunteering. Contact Brenda Porter (see below) to discuss details.

TERMS AND LIMITATIONS

Entries that do not conform to contest guidelines will be rejected. Entries submitted without payment will be rejected. The CMC will not be responsible for entries left after 7 p.m., Monday, November 3. The CMC will not be responsible for entries lost in the mail, stamped with inadequate postage, damaged, or arriving late.

Use of photos: By submitting a photo in the contest, you grant AMC non-exclusive, royalty-free rights for unlimited reproduction in print and electronic publications and promotional materials for an unlimited period of time. We will provide photo credit if we publish your image in print.

For questions, contact Brenda Porter at brendaporter@cmc.org.
