Eckart Roder Education Fund

The Eckart Roder Education Fund provides support for the educational programs of the Colorado Mountain Club through small grants. CMC members representing CMC School or Group Committees and CMC program staff may apply for funding for educational purposes that meet one or more of the following emphases of the fund: mountain safety, responsibility and/or courtesy. History

The Eckart Roder Education Fund was established in 2003 in honor of Eckart Roder, a long-time member of the Colorado Mountain Club who exemplified the values of mountain safety, responsibility and courtesy. The Fund provides support for the educational programs of the Colorado Mountain Club through small grants. Donations to the fund are tax-deductible and accepted any time of year.

Proposal

Please submit proposals to CMC’s Director of Development at development@cmc.org. Proposals will be reviewed by the Eckart Roder Education Fund Advisory Committee. Recipients will be notified on or before September 1st and funds distributed in November.

Application Criteria

CMC members representing CMC School or Group Committees and CMC program staff may apply for funding for educational purposes that meet one or more of the following emphases of the fund: mountain safety, responsibility and/or courtesy.

Examples of projects that fit the fund’s focus areas include but are not limited to: instructor skills training, leadership training, developing curriculum or providing role models for young mountaineers, CMC School scholarships or seed funding to start a new educational program for members or underprivileged youth.

Recipients of funding from the Eckart Roder Education Fund will be asked to give a brief presentation about their funded project at CMC’s annual Eckart Roder Education Fund dinner. In addition, a written report is due by September 1st of the year following the award or within 60 days of completion of the project, whichever is earlier.

Award Range

This is a competitive grant, and it is possible that not all applicants will receive awards. Awards will typically range from $250 to $1,400.
