Longtime member of The Colorado Mountain Club, Giles Toll, has climbed his final peak

Longtime member of the Colorado Mountain Club, Giles Toll, died on January 29, peacefully and surrounded by his family. Giles was an active member of the Mountain Club from 1979, taking many of the Club’s courses and leading numerous  CMC hiking, climbing and cross-country ski trips, some involving the Toll property in the South Boulder Creek drainage.

Giles was on the Board of the Colorado Mountain Club Foundation for 18 years, including two terms as president. In 2008 he  received the Blaurock Award for outstanding service. Giles climbed all of the Fourteeners twice as well as many other high peaks including Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Kenya, Elbrus, Rainier and Whitney. He enjoyed trekking in the Himalayas, going to the base of Mt. Everest as well as completing the Annapurna Circuit.

A celebration of Giles’ life will be held on March 1 at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden from 3:00-5:00.
