Climbing in the Alps

Climbing In The Alps

Have you ever hiked a Colorado 12 or 13er and basked in the joy of not being on a 14er with 500 of your closest friends? Is it possible to do a trip to the Alps and not climb Mont Blanc or the Matterhorn? Come join me in July 2016 and find out. We’ll hike to the Panossiere Hut in Switzerland and climb four local peaks. I was here two years ago and saw three rope teams in two days.

Crested Butte Hikes and Wildflowers (Wait List)

Crested Butte’s title of Wildflower Capital of Colorado, designated by the state legislature in 1990, is undisputed. Imagine yourself hiking in the explosion of color—reds, yellows, blues, purples—that blankets the town and surrounding mountains in July. This 8-day (7-night) trip is scheduled during the peak of blossoms. We will see striking crimson and orange paintbrush, periwinkle columbines, scarlet gilia, iridescent blue flax, yellow sunflowers, purple delphiniums and dusky blue lupines to name a few among an extensive palette of sub-alpine and alpine flowers. All hikes are long, but leisurely, day-hikes from our quaint B&B in the charming town of Crested Butte. Our hikes will take us into three wilderness areas: West Elk Wilderness, Raggeds Wilderness and Maroon-Bells Snowmass Wilderness. One hike will be the classic Crested Butte to Aspen hike, 10 miles, 2,453 feet of elevation gain, with return transportation via shuttle van. On the rest day, we will explore the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory and old mining town of Gothic. We will dine each evening in local establishments or at the B&B. Don’t miss these great hikes with their spectacular views and parade of color.
