Yellowstone in Winter

Yellowstone in Winter

Spend a long President’s Day weekend skiing in Yellowstone National Park!  You’ll glide past steaming geysers and colorful hot springs. You may have to give right-of-way to bison on the trail to Fairy Falls, with its lacey curtain of blue ice. Time it right, and you will arrive at Lone Star geyser to see it erupt in a 20-minute display of spray and steam. You may choose to take a snow coach drop-off at the Divide trailhead and ski back to the lodge through the forest along beautiful Spring Creek. Unlike past CMC trips to Yellowstone with up to 50 people participating, this will be a smaller group of 8 to 14 people, including the leader.

Scotland’s Great Glen Way, Walk & Barge

This 11-day adventure seeks to find the Loch Ness monster while barging on Loch Ness at night and hiking the Great Glen Way during the day. We'll start in Glasgow for some good Scottish fun, getting to know Glasgow via a Food Walking Tour. We'll then head to Fort William to hike Ben Nevis, Scotland's tallest mountain at 4,406’ elevation. Our 7-day hiking trek begins along the Great Glen Way and travels alongside a series of lakes and canals including Loch Ness, looking for Nessie along the way. Each night we'll stay on a barge where the 6-person crew caters to our needs, providing local/cultural/historical information and chef-prepared meals for dinner, breakfast, and box lunches. Occasionally we'll sneak to a local pub for revelry. Each night we'll sleep on the custom barge on the Loch, and each day we'll walk the Great Glen Way, not missing a single step of this gorgeous 79-mile trail. We'll end the adventure in Inverness.

Alta Via 1, 3 and 4 in the Italian Dolomites

The Dolomites are in the northeast corner of Italy, close to the Austrian border. From the American point of view, the Dolomites are perhaps Europe's most underappreciated mountain range. Despite their proximity to tourist-thronged Venice, not many Americans visit. Too bad. These ramparts of white and pink limestone thrusting up to 10,000 feet from rolling green meadows are more dramatic and esthetic (albeit smaller) than the familiar movie-logo snow-capped peaks of the Alps just to the north. Three-thousand-foot walls attract hard-core rock climbers, while energetic hikers tread a vast network of superb foot trails serviced by a system of rifugios—overnight huts that are really more like small basic hotels, with food, wine, heat, electric lights, bunks, many with hot showers and sometimes even private rooms. The rifugios allow a hiker carrying only a modest pack to stay out on the trail for days or even weeks at a time—an outdoor luxury virtually impossible on this side of the Atlantic.

Date: August 24 - September 9, 2018   Price: From $2853

North of Ireland Hiking Adventure

From Dublin to Shannon by way of Belfast, the Giant's Causeway and Sligo, we'll hike along the gorgeous northern and northwestern coasts of the Emerald Isle, leaving time to taste some whiskey, cook some Irish bread, and learn some prehistoric and Irish history along the way. Each day's stop takes us on a new trail including old smuggling routes, rope bridges and sea cliff views. Each night we snuggle into bed & breakfast inns after traditional music and meals in the local pubs. By the time we arrive in Shannon, we will have visited several UNESCO World Heritage sites, two countries and seen many National Irish Treasures. If Ireland has been calling you, now's the time to answer.
