Trip Overview

The Dolomites Mountains are a dream destination! One can hike at different intensity levels in this magnificent area while enjoying breathtaking views. Our trip is designed for hikers who enjoy easier day hikes, around 6/8 miles daily with about 1,000 feet elevation gain (CMC A hikes classification).  We will use a variety of ski lifts, gondolas and chairs, to be able to hike along ridges. We will go look at glaciers from a distance, and will be close up to rock formations of incredible beauty at a time of the year in which we should also see plenty of flowers. We will hike European style, visiting many refuggios, having coffee, cappuccinos and strudels along the way.

Our trip begins and ends in Venice, Italy, where we stay overnight during our arrival and departure days. We will be staying at a family run, 4 star hotel in Corvara, Italy, well known for its gastronomical exploits. We will have the opportunity to learn about the area’s importance during World War I. At 3 CIME di Lavaredo, 5 Torri and at Falzarego, we will visit sites of historical significance related to the First World War, with their restored tunnels, old ruins, etc. We will also learn about the Ladin culture while enjoying the best Italian food and wine in the companionship of our fellow CMC hikers.

Type of activity/level of activity:

Hiking trip, CMC Difficult A / Easy B, casual pace

4 star hotels (both in Venice, where the trip begins and ends) as well as in Corvara. Prices are calculated for double occupancy. In the mountains, the traditional bed is a single (and large) bed frame, with two mattresses side by side, but one cannot guarantee the type of bed in advance.

Skills and Training requirements:

Participants should have a level of fitness to be able to enjoy the hikes. The trails are good but some are rocky and steep for short periods. The participants should not be afraid of riding lifts, gondolas, ski chairs and using commercial buses or professional taxis in narrow commercial roads.

Pre-trip activities:

We will have 1 pre-trip mandatory meeting to discuss details. The initial meting will be at CMC. We will schedule in a date agreeable to all. If you do not live in Colorado, we will talk via Skype. A trip email list will be developed with the names of all in the group, so we can email each other as needed.

What’s included in the trip fee:

All the accommodations at 4 star hotels, breakfast, sack lunches and dinners are included for the duration of the trip, which begins in the evening of June 21st with our dinner in Venice. The hotel in the mountains offers cakes and sweets in the afternoons. All tips and museum ticket are included in the tour price. At the Sportshotel Panorama, we can use their wellness facilities with sauna and solarium, but the exercise room is available for a small fee. Transport to Corvara and back to Venice will be by the local commercial taxi company. Transport to the hikes will be by local buses or taxis. Trip price also includes all lifts, gondolas and ski chairs that will take up the mountains. Consider becoming a CMC member to have a significant decrease in your trip price.

What’s not included in the trip fee:

Your airfare, transportation to and from the airport to the hotel in Venice, use of the exercise facilities, massages and other wellness activities in Corvara. All drinks, gifts, etc.

No beverages (both at the restaurant and the bar) are included. Participants should expect to pay for bottled water at the meals. Each participant has to handle all of his/her luggage.  All personal shopping, or any activities in Venice are not included in the trip price.
