Trip Overview

We'll carpool to the Great Sand Dunes and then hike for 3 miles with elevation gain of 750 feet in the dunes. Stay at the lodge at the entrance of the park or at the motel in Alamosa.  The next day hike 10 miles to Zapata Lake with elevation gain of 2,800. This hike will start at 9,000 feet.  Options for those who want an easier hike are available. Stay at the same hotel. The third day hike 10-12 miles at the bottom of the Sand Dunes. Return home. Price includes one group dinner. 

 

Skills and Training requirements

You should be able to hike 10 miles, starting at 9000 feet with elevation gain of 2,800 feet.

 

Pre-trip activities

One meeting at the office to discuss all the details.

 

What’s included in the trip fee

Carpool fee, (drivers will be paid $150 if they take three passengers) lodge/motel accommodations, entrance fee to the park, and one group dinner!

 

Trip Leaders: Svetlana and John Ehrhart

Svetlana was born in Russia and worked as a tour guide in St. Petersburg for 12 years. She also worked as a tour manager taking English speaking tourists all over the former Russian republics in 1984-1996. She has graduated from a Tour Manager Academy in USA, and owns her own tour company. Svetlana organizes trips for Russian speaking tourists in Colorado, South Dakota, New Mexico, Mexico, California, Arizona, Louisiana, Nevada, Wyoming. She has also organized a trip for the CMC club to Russia in 2013. John is a retired man who likes to hike in unusual places such as The Grand Canyon last summer, several 14ers, The Narrows and Angels' Landing in Zion, etc.
