Trip Overview

Explore the famous mountain biking and hiking trails of Moab’s red rock country and see firsthand why this area of Utah is a mecca for outdoor recreation. From our base camp just outside of Moab, begin each day with breakfast and get together as a group to coordinate rides, hikes, and transportation. While rides and hikes are not guided, assistance is provided to participants to form groups of similar abilities and interests and to select appropriate trails and terrain for the day. We work very hard to match you up with the right combination of skills, adventure, and people.

All rides and hikes offer an off-the-beaten path glimpse into the area’s unique desert environment. A favorite destination is the seldom-traveled Hidden Canyon Trail, with its prolific Ancient Puebloan art and hunting ruins. Take a side trip to nearby Dead Horse Point State Park for spectacular views of the snow-capped La Sal Mountains, visit the Island in the Sky mesa in Canyonlands National Park, or hike past arches, fins, and other geologic formations in Arches National Park.

Many great rides are available right from camp, including in the Klondike Bluffs and Sovereign Trail complex, as well as many other lesser known trails.  You can also hike right from camp into the northwestern portion of Arches National Park.

Savory dinners, nightly bonfires, live music, drum circles, desert croquet, and other games and activities round out the afternoon and evening fun.

Participants provide their own transportation to and from Moab and for all rides and hikes. A 4x4 vehicle is not necessary. You must bring your own bike, helmet, and any other equipment for rides or hikes. Bike and outdoor equipment rentals are available in Moab. Costs associated with side trips to the area’s national or state parks are the responsibility of the participant.

This trip has run for many years and based on our past experience we are anticipating a group size of 40-50 for this year.

Accommodations

Our base camp for 2018 is located north of Moab out on the Klondike Bluffs Road on Utah state land. Camping space, parking, and portable toilets are provided, but participants must bring their own tents and camping equipment. We pitch tents in a large field with incredible views of Arches National Park and the La Sal Mountains. We have no bathing facilities at camp, however showers are available at nearby public campgrounds and at Moab’s public pool complex. A post-ride dunk in a local swimming hole is also a great way to rinse off!

Delicious breakfasts and dinners are prepared by our cooks and served at camp each day. Supplies for make your own sandwiches, energy bars, fruit, and other lunch foods are put out each morning and snacks are available in the late afternoon. Drinking water is provided.

Level of Activity / Difficulty

Rides and hikes are available for all ages from beginner to advanced levels. Mountain bikers should be comfortable on 4x4 roads as there are few smooth gravel roads.
