Trip Overview

This 12-day, 11-night Irish getaway starts in Dublin and ends in Shannon. Heading north from Dublin, we begin our adventure in Newgrange. A UNESCO world heritage site, this stone-age passage tomb is older than the Egyptian pyramids and aligns with the winter solstice. From there, we start our days of hiking, including a day of rolling peaks in the Mournes on the popular award winning Brandy Pad. After baking some Irish bread for our lunch, we'll hike into Belfast. From there, a couple of days of 6-7 mile hikes helps us make our way along the northern coast to the famous Carrick A Rede rope bridge and the Giant's Causeway—we’ll warm up there with some whiskey tasting. Heading west, our trip takes us through the Ulster American Folk Park, a great museum that tells the social history of the Irish who emigrated to America in the 18th and 19th centuries. We pick up hiking along the Minaun Heights which provides fabulous sea cliff views, taking us to Kylemore Abbey and Gardens in Connemara. We stay our last night in Galway, just one short hour away from Shannon, where we'll catch our outbound flights.
