Portuguese Coastal WalkTrip Overview

Trekking along the seaside, sampling local cuisine, exploring medieval towns and staying in upscale accommodations may sound too luxurious to be a pilgrimage—unless that trek happens to be the Portuguese Coastal route of the Camino de Santiago. The Portuguese Coastal route is the second most popular Camino route and for good reason—it’s stunningly beautiful, filled with charming villages, and loaded with delicious food. We’re going in the Fall when the weather is crisp and the crowds have eased. We'll walk along seaside pathways and ancient Roman roads that were once used to collect the rich bounty of this region; we'll do some of that along the way. The coast of Portugal is home to Port wine kept in caves that were dug to create cellars for storage, and to several other structures that date back to the time the Romans occupied this area. It’s also known for fresh fish caught wild in the Atlantic Ocean. Photos can’t really capture the true essence of this trip—the charm of the people, the beautiful cathedrals, the smell of the ocean, the soft chatter of other happy hikers we'll meet along the way.
Our 18-day adventure includes a mix of cultural immersion, a stretch of the legs, and opportunities for spiritual reflection. Along the way we'll be staying in unique upscale accommodations, and most meals are included. Our luggage will be transferred each day, so we only need  to carry day packs while hiking.
It’s a hearty trek from Porto, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, Spain to earn the coveted Compostela certificate. Whether you're "on pilgrimage" or just looking for a great, long-distance walk through two amazing countries, this trip is for you. Do it in style!
