Trip Overview

The jagged ridges and steep snow filled couloirs of the Grand Tetons make up one of the most iconic mountain vistas in the world.  The extraordinary wildlife, pristine lakes and  breathtaking mountain silhouettes make this the ideal destination for backpacking.  No trek showcases this wilderness treasure better than the Teton Crest Trail. We may be crossing snowfields and participants should be familiar with ice axe self-belay and arrest.

Starting from the top of the gondola at Teton Village in six days we will traverse Grand Teton National park to String Lake climbing Paintbrush and Hurricane Passes along the way.

Accommodations

Shared hotel rooms and back country tent camping.

Activities / Difficulty

Difficult Backpacking. We may be crossing snowfields and participants should be familiar with ice axe self-belay and arrest. Particpants should have wilderness trekking skills and advanced backpacking skills.

Itinerary

Day 1: Depart CMC Golden and Drive to Jackson Wyoming (8 hours).  Shared hotels at Jackson. 

Day 2: Drop off participants at Teton Village for breakfast.  Drive van to String Lake parking lot. Take taxi back to Teton Village.  Meet participants.  Take chairlift to top of Rendezvous Mountain.  Hike 5 miles to Middle-South Fork Granite Zone Group Campsite.  Participants to provide their own snacks, lunch and dinner. 

Day 3: Hike Middle-South Fork 4-1/2 miles to Death Canyon Shelf Group campsite.   Participants to provide their own meals and snacks.  

Day 4: Hike Death Canyon 5-1/2 miles to Sunset Lake outside of park boundary.  Participants to provide their own meals and snacks.  

Day 5: Hike 9 miles to North Fork Cascade Group campground.  Participants to provide their own meals and snacks.  

Day 6: Hike North Fork Cascade 5 miles over Paintbrush Divide to Holly Lake Group campsite. 

Day 7: Hike Holly Lake 6 miles to String Lake. Load up van and drive to Rock Springs.  Lunch / celebration on way.  

Day 8: Drive Rock Springs to Denver.
