This is on US Highway 36 after Estes Park and before the entrance kiosks.  We will carpool from here.  If you have a National Park Service Pass please bring it to help out with the carpooling.

This trip is being changed due to the approach to Fall River Road (dirt section) is over a 1/2 mile of debris field and several sections of the dirt road are "dicey".

Instead we will carpool in to the Hollowell Park area, take the transit buses up to Bear Lake Road and hike up and over to Bierstadt Lake, around the lake, over to Mills Basin and down to Hollowell Park. This is a VERY beautiful area with flowers bursting out all over and several different types of vegetation, slopes and trail.  Pretty good trail with some areas of loose stones.  More slow descent than "up".  A beautiful hike in the Park.

This afternoon (Sunday) I hiked this route and had the trail to myself.  What a peaceful experience!


Rocky Mountain National Park says that at any moment (when the federal papers get signed) they will close ALL access to the Fall River Road section (from Highway 34 up to the Alpine Visitor Center) until all construction is done.  Look online at photos of the devastation of Fall River Road and the Alluvial Fan area at:
