This is a triple joint event (SM-DN-CWF). For kids and adults of all ages. Hike to this picturesque lake in the Lumpy Ridge area. This great trail was built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to give jobs during the Great Depression. This area is considered one of the best trails in Rocky Mountain National Park for flora nature studies. It has one of the best examples of geological granitic exfoliation carving the rock formations into interesting shapes. Of historic interest, the famous bear hunter, Israel Rowe, is credited with being the first to discover Gem Lake in the early 1870s and also the first discovering what is known today as Rowe Glacier in the Mummy Range.
