Details

Combined Trailblazers & Photo Section Trip.
Lathrop Trail (first 6 miles - each way) within the "Island In The Sky" District of Canyonlands National Park in Utah, approximately 30 miles by road from Moab UT. Rated by rangers as the most scenic trail within the District!  Car pools to be arranged from Denver.  Rustic (pit toilets & picnic table, additional facilities located at visitors center a few miles away) car camping on BLM land a few miles outside of the NP starting on Thursday evening April 18th, prior to the hike. Return to Denver on Sunday April 21. The Lathrop Trail consists of a (few mile) hike up to the canyon edge (outstanding distant canyon views), follows the canyon edge for a while and then drops steeply via many switchbacks to the mid-level of the canyon, where it follows a dry wash, surrounded by thousand foot high mesa's on all sides! Although the majority of the trail is not steep, there is a 1,000ft elevation drop to get down to the mid-canyon level which is done in about a half mile, but the trail provides switchbacks and stone "stairs". There are a few short sections with steep dropoffs, but these are not difficult to traverse. I have hiked the trail a number of times in the last few years.
The area can provide outstanding star gazing under clear skies! in addition to colorful sunsets that look like another planet!  Arches NP is within an hour drive. Other short scenic activates and stops will be made as the group desires.

Notes

Carpools to be arranged from Denver for Thursday PM returning Sunday PM

This trip will be "closed" on Monday April 15th ,as arrangements need to be made, so if your interested sign up ASAP.
