This is a triple joint event (SM-CWF-DN). For kids and adults of all ages. Hike the Allens Park Trail to the connecting Allens Park-Wild Basin Trail to the enchanting Calypso Cascades waterfalls. The falls were named after the Calypso bulbosa orchid also called fairy slippers. These extraordinarily beautiful orchids can be seen in patches near the falls in the summer. In Greek mythology, Calypso was the sea nymph that charmed Ulysses. As with many wild plants, if the flowers are picked the plant dies - besided it's illegal. The next impressive waterfalls is Ouzel Falls named after the mountain bird of the same name. It is also known as the "water dipper" since it bobs its entire body up and down. These birds have strong legs and special oil glands that are uniquely adapted to a water habitat. This charactertistic allows these birds to walk under water. Their large mass nests are always built near water. Look for then as they are commonly seen at Ouzel Falls as well as their nests behind the falls.
