Set in a scenic glacial Basin, the Blue Lakes provide a nice destination within the Mount Sneffels Wilderness. From the trailhead, the Blue Lakes trail follows the East Fork of Dallas Creek south for a short distance before beginning to climb up a ridge west of the creek.  After following moderate grades for the first 1.5 miles the trail reaches a side creek that flows east into Dallas Creek below.  By this time the route has gained 2000 ft. in elevation.  Beyond this stream crossing, the Blue Lakes trail climbs a bit farther to reach an elevation of 11,700 ft. along which it contours south for the next .5 miles.  After the trail gains another 300 ft. it reaches the north shore of the largest and lowest of the Blue Lakes.  From here the trail ascends steeply eastward to gain 600 ft. in less than .5 miles to reach the middle lake.  The climb in the last .25 miles to the uppermost Blue Lake is negligible.

This will be an exploratory hike - neither Paul or I have ever hiked to the Blue Lakes.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
