Details

We will use one of the campgrounds on the east side of the pass as a base for 2 days of ski tours. We'll choose 2 days of the Memorial Day Weekend, most likely Saturday and Sunday. You'll need overnight camping gear and food for 2 days. Ski tours will have average elevation gains of about 3,000'. Possible objectives are Twining Pk, 13,711', and Geissler Mtns, 13,400'. Be prepared for variable snow conditions. Bring AT or tele ski gear and climbing skins. Helmets are optional. Ski crampons and ice axe recommended.

E-mail inquiries preferred.

GUIDELINES FOR ADVANCED BACKCOUNTRY SKI TOURS

FITNESS LEVEL: You can skin up at 800 feet per hour on an established track for 3 hours with occasional breaks.
SKIING ABILITY: You can ski Black runs at ski areas with reasonable confidence. You can make linked turns in powder, but difficult snow types - heavy wet snow, crusts, poor visibility, or steep slopes may cause problems, though you can cope with them.
AVALANCHE TRAINING: Completion of a level 1 avalanche course or equivalent training and avalanche gear (beacon, shovel, probe) are required.
