Hike towards magnificent buttes rising some 300 feet from arid shortgrass prairie studded with a variety of wildflowers that should be in their prime. Long an important landmark for early travelers on the Plains, it is now visited mostly by hikers, wildflower enthusiasts and birders. We hope to see Lark Bunting, state bird of Colorado. Bring cameras and binoculars.

Pawnee Buttes are isolated remnants of the "Gangplank" that played a significant role in early development of American West. Driving east from town of Ault we travel on Pawnee Pioneer Trail Scenic Byway.  Geological and meterorological insights provided by leaders.
