Details

We will hike on the Colorado Trail along the edge of the remote La Garita Wildernessfrom Spring Creek Trailhead to San Luis Peak (14,014 feet) and return through the center of the Wilderness Area on the Mineral Creek Trail. This portion of the La Garita Wilderness area is known for its wildlife, wildflowers, volcanic pinnacles, and extensive vistas. On Thursday we will travel from Denver and car camp near our finishing point near Mineral Creek. Early on Friday morning, we will leave some cars at the Mineral Creek Trailhead and drive to our starting point at Spring Creek Pass, and backpack over the scenic Snow Mesa to a camp near Mineral Creek. On Saturday, we will backpack over San Luis Pass to a campsite near San Luis Peak. On Sunday morning, we will leave our camping gear behind and do a day hike climb of San Luis Peak. On Monday we will hike downstream on the East Mineral Creek and Mineral Creek trails to our finishing point. After a twenty mile car shuttle to our starting point, we will return home to Denver with a celebratory meal on the way. THIS HIKE IS EXPLORATORY FOR THE LEADER AND THE GROUP MAY DECIDE TO CHANGE THESPECIFICS OF DAILY TRAVEL AND CAMPSITES. Please contact the leader for more information and to register (303-562-6074 – bwatkins08@hotmail.com)

Notes

Had to shorten trip because of weather.  Didn't  camp at San Luis pass and didn't climb San Luis Peak.  Everyone did well and seemed to enjoy trip.  Beautiful scenery and moose watching.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
