Want to do the CT but don't have the time for a real through hike?
Come join us for a few sections of the CT as dayhikes from Denver.
This summer I'll be leading a series of day hikes on segments 1-6 of the CT.
These will generally be long, 10-20 mi,
fast paced on-trail hikes requiring a car shuttle.
Trail shoes recommended.
CMC 10 essentials still required but keep it to a bare minimum.
They will also be exploratory hikes since
the leader had not done the whole route of each hike.
However the routes are well marked and mapped out and
the leader has excellent route finding skills.
These will also be doggy hikes for
well behaved, friendly but tough mountain mutts
able to handle the distance and elevation gain/loss.
Human participants are also expected to be dog friendly.
With the car shuttle, it is unlikely that there will be
enough cars and drivers for anyone to drive or ride all parts
of the drive and shuttle without being in a car with a dog at some point.
This hike will do the 1st part of Segment 6 as described in
The CMC Guidebook, The Colorado Trail, 8th Edition.
Segment 6 is 32+ miles from Kenosha Pass,
over Georgia Pass and down to Hwy 9 North of Breckenridge.
I like long hikes but I probably couldn't find enough others to do this.
Plus the car shuttle would take a whole day by itself!
So I'll break up this segment into 3 parts.
Non-members are welcome as guests with a signed waiver.
Most TH and CT access points require a small fee, $$.
Bring some $$ to contribute to the fee.
This 1st part will go from Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass,
mile 12.3 of Seg 6 and
back down to the cars at Co Rd 37 at ~mile 6 of this segment.
Car pool from Denver over Kenosha Pass to Jefferson,
North on Co Rds 35 and 37 to the CT just North of the
Aspen and Lodgepole GCs.
Drop a car(s) there and drive back to Kenosha Pass.
Hike CT to Georgia Pass, mile 12.3 of Seg 6,
and back down ~6 more miles to the cars at Co Rd. 37.
Drive back to Kenosha Pass.
Stop to eat on the way home, time permitting.
Register by emailing leader.
I encourage everyone to be willing to drive if at all possible.
We will probably need as many drivers as possible with the dogs and car shuttling.
- General hiking strength and speed and ability to maintain a fast pace, 2+ MPH on trail.
- If you are bring a dog
- If you can drive and if so, are you ok with dogs riding in your car for the whole drive or car shuttle part.
- Member number - makes adding members to the roster much easier for the leader!
