Let's explore this easy, pretty hike on Berthoud Pass. We will hike about 5 miles and less than a 1,000' elevation gain at the cool altitude of 11,000'. We will take a small dirt road (the Aqueduct to the Berthoud Pass Ditch and then down Second Creek trail.)

AFTER SCOUTING IT - this is a narrow, rocky, almost slippery, exposed hike in many place for 3 miles and has some scrambling.  Good footing and balance is required.
This hike is subject to being adjusted after we scout it Monday, July 1!

The Berthoud Pass Ditch was begun in 1889 as a waterway for Golden, now owned by Northglenn. Water flows east for the City of Golden to Guanella Pass Reservoir and west for Northglenn through Hoop Creek a tributary of Clear Creek where it is stored in the Stanley Reservoir.

We will have an optional refreshment stop in Empire after the hike.
