This class is meant for an adult and their youth to learn what is needed to climb outside at local sport crags where they can access the top of the climb by hiking. At the end of this 2-day session the adult will be able to help their youth set up safe outdoor climbs at some specific local sites. Adults with little or no climbing ability should leave feeling confident that they can either set up or double check the safety of their Youth's climbing anchors and belay their youth safely.
This session is broken out into 2 days.
The first day is an indoor session held at the American Mountaineering center from 6-9pm and participants will learn exactly what gear is needed to climb outdoors with your child and how to build simple climbing anchors from a variety of materials. We will also spend some time at our indoor climbing wall teaching parents to belay.
The second session will be held at the Golden Cliffs climbing area in Golden, CO from 11-5pm. We will practice building safe anchors, keeping yourself safe on a cliff edge while building anchors and belaying each other in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Enrollment fee is for one adult participant and their youth climber. We hope to build connections between youth and their adults with these new skills. Do to enrollment capacity we are not able to allow 2 adults and a youth to join for a single enrollment fee. If you would like to enroll 2 adults instead of an adult and child combination please complete registration and then let me know via email of your plans.
Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
