Details

FOR MEMBERS OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN OVER THE HILL GANG (RMOTHG) and guests.

What the heck - the NWS forecasts just cold and a slight chance of rain/snow for next Wednesday (10/30), so one more hike seems like a good idea for the last day of the RMOTHG hiking season.

Jeffco Open Space has made substantial changes/improvements to the trail network on South Table Mountain in the acreage it added in recent years.  The open space property weaves between parcels owned by NREL, the state of Colorado, and several private owners.  Despite the current and past history of mixed use, it remains an interesting landscape with views of the front range.  We'll probably see more people jogging/biking/hiking than wildlife (although we saw a very large red tailed hawk), but we'll see several seasonal ponds, geese and ducks, a startling residue of the heavy rains of a month ago.

We'll complete most of the loop before stopping for a snack or lunch.  There will be an optional post-hike social in Golden.

Notes

The Trails Illustrated and USGS topo maps lack the necessary detail or are hopelessly out of date.  Pete Spandau had better luck with Google Earth and Jeffco Open Space.
