LEADER QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE: Vern is a current CMC Leader and has held a number of leadership positions in CMC schools, including: Director of CMC HAMS School 2008 & 2009, Director of the CMC HAMS Advanced Crevasse Rescue Seminar (ACRS) – 2002 to 2006, organizer and Co-Director of the CMC Ski Mountaineering School, leader & organizer of - CMC HAMS Graduation Trips to climb Mt. Rainier 2002 and 2003, leader 2011 & 2012 - CMC HAMS Graduation Trips to climb Mt. Rainier. leader & organizer of multiple Non-CMC climbs of: Denali, Mexican Volcano’s and Aconcagua - 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007, organized and led 13 day trip to Russia and successful climb of Mt. Elbrus and tour of Moscow, August 2013 – organized and led 7 day trip to the Minnesota - Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness

TRIP DATES: Monday, July 21st, 2014 --- August 4th, 2014
NUMBER OF DAYS: 14
TRIP OVERVIEW: Climb one of the Seven Summits and best known mountains in the world during a 6-day climb of Kilimanjaro (9,340 ft.) on the normal Machame Route. Then Safari to one of the prime wildlife viewing areas of Africa during a 4-day budget safari to Lake Manyara, the Serengeti National Parks and the Ngorongoro Crater.
TYPE OF ACTIVITY: Hiking, wildlife watching, and cultural history
ACCOMMODATIONS: Tents during trek, double hotel rooms
SKILLS & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Excellent physical conditioning.
PRETRIP ACTIVITIES: Submission of the trip application & signed liability statement. Attendance at pre-trip planning meeting planned for late February 2014. Optional training outings will begin in February 2014. Climbers not known to the trip leader will be asked to attend a minimum of one pre-trip outing for evaluation of their physical conditioning.
INCLUDED IN TRIP FEE: Climb package, Kili park fees, lodging @ double occupancy, safari, all ground transportation including airport transfers, most meals (half board at hotel and on safari, all meals on mountain), Tanzanian visa & service fee, contingency, gratuities, leader expenses.
NOT INCLUDED IN TRIP FEE: A few meals, international air fare, indicated shots & medications, travel insurance, bar tab, souvenirs, airport transfers & gratuities not within the trip package, baggage fees of any kind, single supplement for lodging. Depending on flight arrangements, an overnight in Amsterdam or London may be needed on the return.

July 24 – July 29: 6 day climb of Kilimanjaro via Machame Route

August 4: return to Denver
