St Charles Peak is located in the southern region of the Front Range.  This is a beautiful part of our state and it typically gets less traffic than areas closer to Denver Metro.

The plan is to meet at the Colorado City Visitors Center and Rest Area (exit 74) at 8:00 am.  We will then drive west on Hwy 165 for 21 miles to the trail head.

The hike will follow the description provided in Greg Long's book "The Best Southern Front Range Hikes" and we will attempt to summit St Charles Peak (elev: 11,784).  Depending on the size and pace of the group, I expect to return to the trail head around 4:30pm.

All participants should:

- be capable of hiking at a moderate pace,  and sustaining this pace for 10 miles and nearly 3,000' of elevation gain

- carry sufficient water for the entire hike (there likely isn't any water along the route)

- bring the 10 essentials

- additional items that may be required: snowshoes, traction devices, trekking poles.
