Details

The Arkansas section of Canon City holds rainbow and brown trout. Waders, small flies and light tippets are recommended. A detailed itinerary with fishing reports and fly sections will be emailed to participants before the trip. We'll hit the river about 10 am and leave about 3 pm. There's an optional stop afterwards for refreshments and stories.

The latest ArkAnglers fishing report states "The Arkansas River is quickly coming into spring form with many fish (both browns and rainbows) venturing further from winter water to take better advantage of the daily pulses of fish food. Still primary among these would be midge larvae/pupae, most frequently found drifting in the mornings. Patterns like the black beauty, WD-40, top secret midge and zebra in an 18-22 have all been effective ...  In another week, we should see the inception of more blue wing olive mayfly activity in the afternoons. We've had a few reports of blue-wings already, but it doesn't appear that consistent activity has begun yet."

Notes

Post Trip - Conditions were cold and cloudy during our morning fishing by the Raynolds Bridge section of the Arkansas River. Conditions changed to sunny in the afternoon when we switched to the 'Pink House' section several miles upstream. Fishing was still slow, however.
