Details

The Colorado Mountain Club is partnering with the White River National Forest to complete volunteer projects on Tenderfoot Mountain this summer and fall.  Discover new places, meet new people, learn new skills, and give back to the places you love to play!

Tenderfoot Mountain, nestled between Dillon and Keystone, is an exceptional recreation destination for a multitude of users but as the area has grown in popularity, the negative environmental impacts from user-created trails has increased as well.  Currently, the mountain is crisscrossed with unsustainable routes that are causing erosion, damaging local vegetation, and disrupting watershed quality.  CMC is working with the Forest Service to help implement their new travel management plan by coordinating volunteer projects to address these critical resource concerns.  Crews will install natural barriers and signage to close non-system routes and then rehabilitate damaged areas by installing erosion control structures and transplanting native species.

Volunteers will enjoy a weekend of hiking, camping and restoration work in this beautiful area while CMC delivers the perks – food, group gear, project leadership and training are all provided!  Meet new people, learn new skills, and give back to the places you love to play.  No stewardship experience is necessary and project is open to youth aged 14+ (with parent).  Participants should be prepared to hike two miles of steep terrain to and from the worksite each day.  CMC will provide transportation from Golden Friday evening or volunteers can meet us at the trailhead at 8am Saturday morning.  The group will hike approx 2 miles to the project site with tools, lunch and personal gear, work throughout the day and head back to the trailhead around 4pm.  Same will go for Sunday and the group will return to Golden around 6pm.  The project is free and open to the public but space is limited so be sure to register online soon!

Please direct any questions to Julie at stewardship@cmc.org and help us spread the word about this important project!
