Location

Meet up at Woolly Mammoth Park and Ride off I-70, section KK at 8:00AM for an 8:15AM departure. Please be prompt, we're trying to avoid the temporary closure of I-70 at the Twin Tunnels for blasting, Guanella Pass Road had construction delays, and parking at the Pass is extremely limited due to several construction projects.

We will trek south from Guanella Pass to the first of three 12,000' peaks: 12,179', 12,235', and Geneva Mountain.

Details

For members of RMOTHG and guests.

Trek to Geneva Mountain is an early exploration of the high country to the South/Southwest of Guanella Pass. It's a 6.5 mile round trip, 1,000' of elevation gain rated Difficult A because of trail conditions, bush whacking, and 12,000' elevation. The trail conditions at the start include mud and several snow fields - we made it across with poles and good boots, but micro spikes may be necessary - followed by dry but rocky on the way to the steep slope of the first mountain of the triple that includes Geneva Mountain. The weather was cold and we were chased down by rain and threatening clouds on the scout.

Dress warmly, bring poles and micro spikes, wear waterproof boots and expect spectacular scenery and the magic of the high country.

Notes

Transportation requires some planning because of construction on I-70 and Guanella Pass Road. Parking at the pass is severely limited because of construction projects.

We'll have an optional after hike social in Idaho Springs or Golden depending on the timing of I-70 closures

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
