Tenderfoot Mountain, nestled between Dillon and Keystone, is an exceptional recreation destination for a multitude of users but as the area has grown in popularity, the negative environmental impacts from user-created trails has increased as well.  Currently, the mountain is crisscrossed with unsustainable routes that are causing erosion, damaging local vegetation, and disrupting watershed quality.  CMC is working with the Forest Service to help implement their new travel management plan by coordinating volunteer projects to address these critical resource concerns.  Crews will install natural barriers and signage to close non-system routes and then rehabilitate damaged areas by installing erosion control structures and transplanting native species.

Help us celebrate National Public Lands Day!

The Colorado Mountain Club is partnering with the White River National Forest & Friends of the Dillon Ranger District to complete volunteer project on Tenderfoot Mountain.  Discover new places, meet new people, learn new skills, and give back to the places you love to play!

Volunteers will enjoy a day or full weekend of hiking, camping and restoration work in this beautiful area while CMC delivers the perks – food, group gear, project leadership and training are all provided!  Plus you'll receive complimentary passes for FREE ENTRY to your favorite Federal Public Lands site!!

Join us Saturday or all weekend! (please indicate below).

Saturday - CMC will join forces with FDRD for a easy-to-access project near Cemetery Rd. from 9am - 3pm.  Beverages and fun will be provided after the workday.

830-9am Breakfast and project check-in
9:00am  Project begins and volunteers split into groups
12:00pm  Lunch provided on trail
2:30pm  Wrap up project and return to trailhead.
3:00pm  Trailgate party (refreshments and snacks) to finish

Those staying the weekend will head a few minutes down the road to Frey Gulch and a dispersed campsite (front-country car camping) where dinner will be provided.

Sunday - [Tentative, will only take place if at least 5 people want to participate in both project days, please indicate below]  After a hearty breakfast the group will enjoy a beautiful (but rigorous!) 2-mile hike through the fall foliage to our high-altitude project site on Tenderfoot Mountain.  The group will complete a few hours of restoration work before returning to the vehicles around 2pm.

Many thanks to the National Forest Foundation, The Summit Foundation and Friends of the Dillon Ranger District for supporting this project!

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
