The Walk for Wilderness will begin in Bergen Park in northern Evergreen adjacent to the RTD Park-n-Ride lot located at the intersection of Colorado Highway 74 and County Road 65. Walkers, strollers, children & participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. The Walk will be on the 5-mile Pioneer Trail from Bergen Park to the Evergreen Lake House.

Friends of Mt Evans & Lost Creek Wildernesses is hosting the Evergreen Walk for Wilderness to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act!  Join CMC at this family-friendly event!

 

Course Description

The Walk for Wilderness will begin in Bergen Park in northern Evergreen adjacent to the RTD Park-n-Ride lot located at the intersection of Colorado Highway 74 and County Road 65. Walkers, strollers, children & participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. The Walk will be on the 5-mile Pioneer Trail from Bergen Park to the Evergreen Lake House.

Wilderness Expo & Prizes

At the completion of the Walk, there will be free snacks and beverages at the Evergreen Lake House for registered participants. In addition, there will be a Wilderness Expo with many fun and educational activities for participants including keynote speakers, live music, wilderness education displays, and crosscut saw and Leave No Trace demonstrations.


Pets

Dogs are welcome along the trail and at the Wilderness Expo. However, they must be on-leash at all times. Pet owners are responsible for removing all pet waste from the trail and Evergreen Lake House area.

Walk for Wilderness - Parking

Parking

Limited free parking is available in and around the start area. Additional free parking with shuttle service to the starting area will be located at Bergen Meadow Elementary at Shuttle service will be provided at the Evergreen Lake House to return you to your vehicle.


Handicap Accessibility

The Pioneer Trail is a multi-use trail that is primarily paved; however, approximately 2 miles of the trail within Elk Meadow Open Space Park and approximately 1/2 mile near the Evergreen Lake House are dirt trails.

Accommodations for individuals with limited mobility are available. RTD Park-n-Ride lot located at the intersection of Colorado Highway 74 and County Road 65 and at Bergen Meadow Elementary School, 1892 Bergen Parkway, Evergreen with shuttle service to the RTD Park-n-Ride start area.
