Details

This year we are going to Jay's and Chuck's cabins on Monday February 27th through Wednesay March 1st (two nights). The cabins are located on Shrine Pass (which is near Vail Pass).

The trip elevation begins at 10,530’ and reaches 11,223’ at the cabins. The distance to the cabin is 2.7 miles. This trip is classified as an easy snowshoe. There is no avalanche danger in this area. We will enjoy beautiful views during the day and moon and star-gazing at night. There will be time to take a couple side trips since we are staying two nights. The map reference for this trip is Trails Illustrated 108: Vail, Frisco, Dillon. You can read more about the cabins at http://www.huts.org/The_Huts/shrine.php

I have reserved 24 beds in the two cabins. You will need to go to the CMC website to be added to the roster for this trip. Reservations will on a first come, first served basis. You need to sign a liability release form from the 10th Mountain Division online, which I will provide once you are a confirmed participant.

The cost is $106.00, which is higher than past trips, however we will have indoor water, propane stoves, and showers in the cabins, and a sauna nearby (bring a swimsuit).

While the roads are good, we ask for volunteers with 4-wheel drive vehicles to drive in case there is a need for higher clearance on the roads. We will go on this trip even if it is lightly snowing.

Please bring both snowshoes and microspikes. At the trailhead we will discuss which to use on the trip.

In addition to the 10 essentials, you will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillowcase, personal care items, small towel, and hut slippers. You will also need to bring three sack lunches and two breakfasts which require water to prepare (lunches that do not need to be cooked). You will receive information concerning the dinner menus after you sign-up for the trip and once cabin assignments have been made. At that time, we will ask each participant to contribute a dish for the two dinners (dessert, etc.). If you have special dietary needs you will have to bring your own dinners for this  trip.

Refunds are not available for participants who cancel their reservations. However, participants may find another member to take over their reservation (and seek reimbursement from their replacement – not from me). If this is the case contact me, as I will keep a waitlist for this trip and I might be able to help you out.

Here are the steps to follow to sign-up for this exciting hut trip:
