Details

Our destination is the high point of Crosier Mountain Roadless Area which is wedged between the Big Thompson River and its North Fork northeast of Estes Park and west of Loveland.  Despite proximity to Estes Park this area is more foothills than RMNP high country.  Our route begins in "downtown" Glen Haven and climbs the mountain's west flank steadily for two miles.  The next mile rises more slowly and contours north around to the east ridge.  The last half mile steepens to the summit ending with an easy scramble up a boulder pile.  While much of the hike is in the trees there are many clearings with good views of RMNP peaks and, from the east ridge, the distant plains.  I have led this hike in each of the last two years and participants seem to like it.

Notes

I recently scheduled this as a "New Member Trip" but then canceled due to a spring storm.  After seeing that other new member trips are "A" class I have decided to not solicit new members (in the trip title) because it is definitely more than an "A" hike.  However, if you are a new member and have been hiking regularly or have completed another "New Member Trip" with an "A" rating and thought it too easy, this might be a good hike for you.  It is a solid "moderate B" hike.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
