Before applying for Trip Leader School through SALT you need:

Prerequisites for Trip Leader School:

1) A minimum of one (1) year as a CMC member

2) Three (3) CMC trips - this does not include school trips

3) Wilderness First Aid certification - take the class it is free for future trip leaders!

Denver Group Council provides funding for  Trip Leader School through Support Aid for Leader Training (SALT) program.

1. Potential or Current Trip Leader applies for SALT via application on line at:
2. DS&L (Denver Safety & Leadership) reviews applications and certifies qualifications for each applicant
3. DS&L  creates and assigns codes for TLS requested by applicant and sends emails to those certified applicants

Leader Candidate Prerequisites: CMC member for a minimum of 1 year, 3 CMC trips (not CMC school associated trips) and Wilderness First Aid certified.

Denver Trip Leader School, (DTLS), Saturday, April 1, 2017, from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

8:00AM - 11:30AM - Class session, Conference Rooms A & B, AMC

12:00 AM - 6:00PM - Leader-In-Training, (LIT), field practical, Location TBD

The school provides a 3.5 hour lecture on topics such as CMC policies, legal and risk considerations, trip planning, group dynamics, situational awareness, the trip cycle, the CMC ambassador role and leadership.  The LIT field practical is a 6 hour session in the field where leader candidates will engage in role modeling, working through trip scenarios and discussions in order to gain a better understanding of what they can expect to encounter in the field and learn ways to lead and manage a successful trip.  DTLS will actively assist leader candidates in securing LIT’s.
