Charlie is a prolific mountaineer with a passion for climbing lists of peaks: the 200 highest mountains in Colorado, the 50 state highpoints, over 100 USGS-named peaks in Death Valley, the 57 ultra-prominence peaks in the lower US, the highest mountains in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Australia, and many more lists few people understand.

He is the co-author, along with his wife Diane, of 3 guidebooks:

Highpoint Adventures - the complete guide to the 50 state highpoints

The Essential Guide to Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve

The Trad Guide to Joshua Tree - 60 favorite climbs from 5.5 to 5.9

Charlie is also the 2013 recipient of the CMC Ellingwood "Golden Ice Axe" Award.
