We are climbing 2 (maybe 3) 13ers in the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range just west of Westcliffe, CO.

Rito Alto Peak (a bicentennial), Hermit Peak, and possibly Eureka Mountain.

Hiking distance and elevation will be dependant on how far up Hermit Road we can drive. I am guessing between 9,000 and 10,000 feet elevation.

Call me to find out meeting location. Leaving Monument, CO by 4:30am. Meeting another person in Westcliffe at the Shell Gas station/Subway at 6:30am.

Here is a link to the info on Rito Alto:

You can read the trip reports attached to the page to get an idea of the mountains/ridges we are climbing. Mostly Class 1, but some minor Class 2 & Class 3 near the summits.

It will be windy on the ridges and summits. Bring the 10 Essentials and goggles, balaclava, mittens, microspikes, ice axe.

We were able to drive up CR 160 (Hermit Rd) to 10,200 and parked there. We starting hiking at 7:30am and reached Rito Alto at 12:15pm. (4 hr 45min)

All 3 of us then made it over to Hermit Peak. John headed back down from here. Scott and I went over and got Eureka Mountain. Then we met John back on the road at our arranged meeting spot on the platueau.

We made it back to the truck before dark and into Westcliffe before the restaurants closed! It was a great day climbing and I was thrilled to get 3 new peaks!
