Location

We'll meet at the Freckenridge/Peaks Trailhead  on Skil Hill Road past Peak 7 in Breckenridge at 9:00 am. We'll begin our snowshoe heading north on rolling hills past Cucumber.  South Barton, Middle Barton, and North Barton Gulches.  We'll continue past the junctions of Miner's Creek and Gold Hill Trails heading downhill somewhat to the end of the Peaks/Freckenridge Trail. We'll walk for perhaps a mile or so  on Miner's Creek Road to Peak #1 Avenue opposite the Senior Center where we will pick up the free bus back to Breckenridge.  We can then stop and look at the snow sculptures in Breckenridge.  Afterwards, we'll take the free gondola back to our vehicle(s). ***If you need to cancel your participation in this snowshoe trip, if at all possible please contact me before the trip begins.

****Please note: This is  not a trip for beginning snowshoers.  Participants will need to have experience snowshoeing and know how to use their equipment.  Please bring warm layers, wind/rain overjackets and pants along with at least 2 liters of water and plenty of food. Please understand that there is no easy way off this trail after Cucumber Gulch until we reach Frisco.
 

Driving Directions from Colorado Springs: Take Hwy. 24 west to Hartsel.  Turn norh/right onto Hwy.9 to Fairplay.  Go north on Hwy. 285 to the light.  Take a left, going north on Hwy. 9 to Alma and Breckenridge.  Turn left on S. Park Avenue and turn left on Ski Hill Road going up the hill 1/10 mile past Peak 7.  The parking area will be on the left.  AWD or 4WD vehicles are highly suggested. Parking is very limited so carpools will be needed.

Driving Directions from Denver: Take I-70 west to Frisco.  Take Hwy. 9 south to Frisco.  Continue south on Hwy. 9 to Breckenridge.  Turn right onto Skil Hill Road going up the hill 1/10 mile past Peak 7.  The parking area will be on the left.   AWD or 4WD vehicles are highly suggested. Parking is very limited so carpools will be needed.

Notes

****Please note - Sophia Thilenius (member # 144144) did not show up for this event.  As we did not have 4 people, the official snowshoe was cancelled.  However, three of us decided to complete the unofficial snowshoe.  There were no incidents.  Please remind Denver CMC members to call or email the trip leader if they need to cancel their participation in an event.
